About Hal

Hal Gordon is an award-winning freelance speechwriter and lecturer based in Houston, Texas.  Hal was a speechwriter in the Reagan White House, where he wrote for Counselor to the President Edwin Meese, OMB Director James C. Miller, and other top domestic advisors to President Reagan. From 1997 to the beginning of 2001, Hal was speechwriter to General Colin L. Powell. From 2001 to 2004, Hal was corporate speechwriter for ConocoPhillips, then the fifth-largest corporation on the Fortune 500 list, where he wrote speeches for chairman of the board Archie Dunham and other ConocoPhillips executives.

Since 2005, Hal has provided executive speech writing services for top executives of Shell Oil, Royal Dutch Shell, CenterPoint Energy, Marathon Oil, Exxon Mobil, GE Aero Energy, the Greater Houston Partnership and other Houston-based clients.

Hal has lectured on speechwriting for NASA, Texas A&M University, the National Association of Government Communicators and at speechwriter conferences in the U.S. and Britain. Hal is a founding member of the Professional Speechwriters Association and a six-time winner of the coveted Cicero Award, [

Hal has a B.A. in political science from Drew University, a law degree from George Washington University, and an M.A. in public communication from American University.
